Ankeny unleashes dog park group to begin plans

An Ankeny-based group is one step closer to bringing a dog park to the city.
The City Council officially recognized the organization last month with the formation of the Ankeny Dog Park Task Force. The move means organizers can begin formally working with the Ankeny Park Board to put together a detailed proposal.
The task force consists of members of the Ankeny Dog Park Initiative, the group that brought the idea to city officials. Ankeny resident Diana Baratta will serve as the liaison between the Ankeny Park Board and the dog park group.
Todd Redenius, director of the Parks and Recreation Department, said the council’s move is the first step in bringing the park to the city.
Redenius said the park board is currently helping the dog park group collect data to decide what features might be needed, what type of land would be best and what the cost might be. Organizers are also studying what has been successful at other dog parks.
Redenius said a dog park is a great project because they are becoming common in Iowa communities and elsewhere.
“We’d like to see one in Ankeny in the future,” he said.
The group will be working over the next few months to put together a proposal for the City Council. Redenius said the biggest issue for the group is time because “these projects don’t move forward that quickly.”
“It’s a relatively long process,” he said. “It won’t be built overnight.”
Jacquie Holm-Smith, president of the Ankeny Dog Park Initiative, originally hoped to have a proposal to city officials this June and have the park ready to open in June 2009.
“It’s a moving target,” Holm-Smith said. “We’re moving as aggressively as we can but these things take time.”
The members of the initiative are dedicated to the project, she said.

Because while things were still good we put down a hefty deposit on a house, which when it was finished being built, we could no longer secure financing for. And this is with 30% down, and good credit. Part of the issue is self-employment and the other was a bad loan officer who sent in a ‘fudged’ application without my knowledge to the only bank at the time would look at a self-employed stated income loan. When we figured out what he did, we found another loan officer, but when he submitted to the same bank with the correct info, it made the bank leery of our application, since the first loan officer lied to them again…Anyway, with incentives that I am getting from the builder, and the market in the area where we are buying, its actually a good time to buy. They sold 150 houses and almost every inventory home they had at the end of February.Put that together, and you can see why I need to buy now, plus the house will not be ready until summer, which gives us some more time to work the builder for some more incentives. They can’t sell a house unless it appraises, and those appraisers aren’t appraising like they used to.And I’m sorry your butt was probed… :-)

Atheism is a religion now ? Is there any religious person who never heard of evolution ? If they are still creationists then it’s their choice. Why not advertise the fact that the Earth is round ? I mean, there must be some people who believe it’s flat and never heard that it’s actually round.

No, it is a simple collatoralized loan. The fed announces an auction, and asks interested parties to tell the fed how much they want, and what interest rate they will pay on it.After 28 days, the full principal and interest is repaid to the fed.

    would we wear cool masks?

  5. Kenzie Says:

How do you auction money? Are they selling their stocks the Fed who’ll take on the CDOs at high risk of failure and incur the monetary loss for them?

  6. Penelope Says:

Mmm. “Care” is obviously a mainly British expression, so perhaps it should be substituted for “iike”.And I live in Ireland, so frankly I can’t be arsed.

  7. Linton Says:

Reminds me of a joke by an employee that worked at a company that entered bankruptcy: the change in my pocket is worth more than this company. Harharhar.

Most US Americans can’t parse good. Such Like, The Iraq, whomever none withstanding Africa. (Sorry, it just seemed begging for a Miss Teen South Carolina joke to me.)

Who knows, maybe we can use a measured internet flash-mob to do something useful. A good site to organise this sort of thing is pledgebank where the ORG (UK version of EFF) got its funding - they got 1000 people to commit to paying £5 per month. How about if everyone committed to paying $10 per month for a year? We would need 140 members to fund one hoarding at $1400 per month. We could recruit designers and discuss the most effective campaign possible. As I said, I am in the UK, so can only only offer funding and opinion. However, this might be an ideal project for reddit.Edit - I suddenly notice that the focus of the billboard that inspired my post was actually aimed primarily at criticising religion. I actually think education in science is more likely to succeed, but lets discuss it.

Er.. I’m not sure whether American readers would necessarily parse this question correctly. They might think you’re asking, rather despondently, if anyone cares… correct me if I’m wrong, American redditors!

  11. Crispian Says:

I agree with this, but the larger the scale, the better. The biggest problem with the “evolution vs. creationism” debate is that people don’t know what the word “evolution” means. Evolution did not create the earth, for example.

  12. Rina Says:

Cool. I’ll get my pellet gun and start plinking your head.

  13. Zandra Says:

yeah but look on the bright side - compared to the 9 trillion Bush has blown with Iraq and tax cuts for his friends this seems like chump change.

  14. Aleta Says:

I’m sorry… but why would you buy a house now… prices are still falling?

  15. Krystina Says:

For goodness sake, of course they do. Under the Term Auction Facility (TAF), the Federal Reserve will auction term funds to depository institutions. All depository institutions that are eligible to borrow under the primary credit program will be eligible to participate in TAF auctions. All advances must be fully collateralized. Each TAF auction will be for a fixed amount, with the rate determined by the auction process (subject to a minimum bid rate).Check out the FAQ to see the elegable collatoral.
