Go! offers 40 more interisland flights

Go! airlines, blamed by Aloha Airlines for its demise, said Sunday night it would increase the number of interisland flights in Hawaii from 54 to 94 a day starting Tuesday.
In a news release, go! said it would carry ticketed Aloha passengers at no charge this week, but otherwise made no mention of the airline or its planned shutdown. Go! also said it would hold one-way fares at $49 through April 7.
"In response to demand, we have significantly increased the number of flights in all markets providing high-frequency service throughout the business day. We will continue to adjust our schedule to satisfy demand and work hard to provide the highest quality, lowest cost service to the people of Hawaii," said Jonathan Ornstein, chairman and CEO of go’s parent company, Mesa Air Group of Phoenix.
In its announcement that Aloha was shutting down, CEO David Banmiller said "unfair competition has succeeded in driving us out of business." He was referring to go!, which began operations in June 2006 and started a fare war, first at $39 and now at $49, that undercut both Aloha and Hawaiian.
Both Aloha and Hawaiian have sued Mesa (Nasdaq: MESA) for illegally using confidential financial information about their operations to try to drive them out of business. Hawaiian won a major ruling in its case against Mesa last fall when a federal judge ordered Mesa to pay $80 million in damages.

This has been something I just don’t understand. We say we want security… so the US is soon going to require a passport to go to Canada. Well, Detroit, Buffalo, Seattle, etc. are some large American cities on or near the boarder. It’s not uncommon for people to live in one country there and work in the other. Travel back and forth has gotten longer and much stupider. It’s Canada! America-Junior! (as Homer put it) I think we can trust them. The money that is being wasted on securing our nation from evil Canadian hordes just seems stupid. The boarder crossings should be eliminated. Take the money we are spending on securing ourselves from Canada — and the money the Canadians are spending to protect themselves from the evil Americans who are going over to shop, or gamble, or just hang out with their friends… and take it, pool the cash and spend it on better security (real security, not the imaginary kind the TSA and the like are doing) for the combined American-Canadian points of entry.Get rid of the stupid guy at the boarder crossing who’s sole job appears to be to see if he can get the crazy axe welding murdering psychopath to admit that he is a crazy axe welding murdering psychopath. I’m sure they catch lots of them that way.

That makes sense, I took a trip from the UK to Spain a couple of weeks ago, and I definantly needed my passport.

They also did not abolish the use of passports within the Schengen zone now. That was years ago (1995-2001, in most cases). You also haven’t needed a passport to travel between the Nordic countries since 1952…

  6. Joni Says:

Because of the economic advantages, of course.

  7. Korbin Says:

but still they will hate our freedom ;)

  8. Ursula Says:

That’s because the UK has refused to join the Schengen Zone. (Which is annoying for Ireland, as it means they had to choose between joining Schengen or having a similar agreement with the UK only. They choose the UK version due the shared land border.)

this used to make me sad but i guess it’s for the better, if you travel a lot your passport used to get filled up pretty quickly if you were from a non-EU country.adding extra pages in a pain in the ass and it’s not like they don’t have your every movement in a database somewhere anyway.

Just ask for a stamp at passport control, they will usually oblige if you ask nicely and smile.
