I’m imagining some BMW owner, depressed at the car payments, trying to commit suicide by running his car in the garage.

It is not cleaning the air unless it takes in more carbon dioxide than it puts out. However just because the emission has less carbon dioxide than the surrounding air, it does not mean it is taking carbon out of the air.

well, right now sure. but that is poised to change i think

Electrolysis powered by batteries charged by solar and the alternator/generator on board…Hydrogen on demand! Not hydrogen from a pump derived from natural gas!Jeez, when, finally, when?

Then giving up, backing out of the drive-way, ting hit by a truck and taking out half the block.I know, bad science, but that would be cool, right?

Tests show that making hydrogen dirties the air. We just managed to move around the pollution source.

using as regular motor instead of a fuel cell, doesn’t sound very efficient. also, currently creating hydrogen isn’t efficient, and it’s harder to transport and takes way more space, meaning less miles per storage unit.

Why can CO in the air not get oxidized in the cylinders to give CO2?Anyway I thought the real problem in emissions was NO2 or more like a trade-off between NO2 and CO. I thought if you add more oxidizing agents to the catalytic converter then you can get rid of the CO but end up with more NO2.I think you have a very good point about just the added water increasing the moles of gas in the cylinder and making CO a smaller proportion. Although when making NO2 you decrease the number of moles.

Oh, I thought that by on demand you meant providing all the power you need as you need it on the vehicle itself. That will never happen for vehicles as heavy as a BMW even if they did the impossible and converted all the light energy hitting the car into momentum.Offline production is possible.

Not in all cases. For example, if you were to use solar cells to power electrolysis there would be no byproducts besides oxygen.

This is just stupid. When I was a kid, the Blue Angels crashed in Indiana during an air show that my friend attended and she remembers everyone screaming and running everywhere. And now this. Why do we permit such stupid shows? Additionally, when I was kid, mom took me to see the circus. They announced a trapeze backflip act without a net. Sure enough, the woman fell in a mangled mess on the ground and was dead, and everyone screamed and ran out while the clowns pulled out boards to cover up the scene.
