R. Kelly Defense Rests Its Case
Defense attorneys have rested their case in the child pornography trial of R&B singer R. Kelly in Chicago.
The singer looked relaxed as defense attorney Ed Genson rested the case without calling any witnesses for the day.
Jurors sat in court for just several minutes before Judge Vincent Gaughan sent them home for the day. They’ll be back in court Tuesday, when prosecutors plan to call two rebuttal witnesses.
The judge told the jurors closing arguments are likely to begin Thursday.
Kelly has pleaded not guilty to charges accusing him of videotaping himself having sex with a female prosecutors say was at young as 13.

The couple, who met on set while Alba was filming “The Fantastic Four” in 2005, became engaged last December.
Pamela Anderson Parts With Viper For PETA
Pamela Anderson may have a need for speed, but her favorite charity has a need for funds.
That’s why the former “Baywatch” babe is selling her prized Dodge Viper and donating the proceeds to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
“I’ve been working with PETA for 15 years,” Anderson told The Associated Press. “They’re kind of my ethical advisers. With them, I see actual results.”
The 40-year-old actress recently held a private estate sale to benefit the animal organization, and she’s planning to personally oversee the sale of her 2000 Viper, which she customized herself with white racing stripes. The car plays a prominent role in Anderson’s forthcoming E! series, “Pam: Girl on the Loose,” but she admitted it was dangerous for her to own such a high-performance vehicle.

Let them eat cake

Whether it's a birthday, graduation, retirement, baby shower, fancy dinner, wedding or simply a morning coffee klatch, a cake proclaims it a special occasion. If the cake is homemade, so much the better.
But unlike many other types of cooking, baking is not a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants undertaking. In fact, trying to make a cake without a recipe is “like building a house without a blueprint,” says Roland Hofner, a baking professor in the culinary arts program at Fanshawe College in London, Ont., and owner of Cakewalkers, a city bakery specializing in pastries and cakes, especially wedding cakes.
Baking is a very “scientific” process, he explains, in which all the ingredients are building blocks that interact, causing chemical reactions to create the structure of the cake.
But that doesn't mean you have to be a scientist to succeed. Those who develop the recipes have that knowledge, so all a home baker has to do is follow the instructions.
That's why the key to baking is following the recipe to the letter, including measuring properly and adding the ingredients and following the method in the exact order given, Hofner says. “You can drastically change a recipe by switching around the method.”
One potential problem is the dual Canadian realities of imperial and metric measures. Hofner believes some of the generally accepted conversions are not precise enough for baking and uses a more exact conversion. Bakers who switch back and forth between the two forms of measurement are just asking for trouble and those who mistakenly equate weight and volume measure are courting disaster.
For example, he says, one cup of all-purpose flour equals about 240 millilitres (volume measure) but weighs 150 to 160 grams (weight measure). One cup of sifted all-purpose flour, however, weighs only about 125 to 135 grams, depending on how much air is incorporated into it. If it's pastry or bread flour, the weight measurements are different again.

The World's Best Dividend Stocks

American blue chips have been the backbone of many investors’ portfolios for the past century. In fact, Schering-Plough (NYSE: SGP) , Hershey (NYSE: HSY) , and General Mills (NYSE: GIS) were three of the best stocks from 1957 to 2003, according to research by Wharton professor Jeremy Siegel. For some, these stocks helped build sizable fortunes.
Undoubtedly, domestic dividend payers will continue to play an important role in our portfolios into the 21st century.
But restricting yourself to just American blue chips going forward would be like entering a prize fight with one hand tied behind your back. To capitalize on the benefits of this century’s best dividend-paying stocks, you need to look outside our borders.
Stamp your passport
Over the past decade — especially the past five years — the global economy has grown remarkably. And that growth will only continue as more capital is invested abroad — not only into emerging markets like China and India, but also into more developed markets like Greece and Ireland.
What’s more, you’re likely to find more companies paying higher dividends abroad. According to Bloomberg, “Dividends for the U.K.’s FTSE 100 index are also two-thirds more than those of the Dow Jones Industrial Average in the United States.” Moreover, the NZX 50 index in New Zealand pays an average dividend yield around 6%.
It isn’t even close
Foreign cash cows have been beating up their American counterparts since 2003. A screen on Capital IQ for companies capitalized at greater than $1 billion, with a current dividend yield exceeding 2%, illustrates the profound disparity quite nicely.
Fully 45% (82 of 183) of foreign dividend-paying stocks that trade on a U.S. exchange have more than doubled in the past five years. Included in this group are Turkcell (NYSE: TKC) , up 761%, and British American Tobacco (NYSE: BTI) , up 416%.
