Taking a cue from the candidate Hillary Clinton’s biggest supporters including Ohio governor Ted Strickland are now rallying around barrack Obama. In an email to supporters, Clinton says it’s time for the party to unite.
Troopers had quite a mess on their hands after a crash in Monclova Township. They say a semi-truck hauling corn hit one SUV, lost control, hit another SUV, then tipped over spilling a load of corn. Three people were taken to Toledo hospital.
An F-16 jet pilot thought he needed help mid-flight today. The 180th fighter wing says the fighter jet was up in a training mission when it suffered a minor fuel leak. The pilot declared an in-flight emergency and crews scrambled to the airport, but the jet made it back and no one was hurt.
Two astronauts stepped outside the international space station today to spruce up its newest room, a $1 billion Japanese lab. The shuttle discovery crew set up 2 TV cameras around the lab’s robotic arm. They also finished removing thermal covers from the arm. The inside of the lab is also getting a makeover. Shuttle and space station crews moved in more equipment racks which hold power and data equipment along with scientific experiments. The lab’s expected to be ready for full scale science operations next spring.

As mothers around the country are honored today with flowers and cards and perhaps brunch, Casper’s Della Works has a poster full of memories and some heavy hardware on which to reflect.
Works, 72; her daughter, Barbara “Barbie” Bosco, 46; and granddaughter, Nicole Bosco, 23, ran in and finished the Walt Disney World Marathon in Florida in January.
And just for grins, Works and Barbie Bosco ran a half-marathon the day prior, in order to get a special, gold “Goofy” medal given only to finishers of both events.
“Running with my mother is always an adventure, before and after the race mostly,” Barbie Bosco laughed. “And the journey — just getting there is always interesting.”
She is a 1980 graduate of Natrona County High School and lives in Vernon Hills, Ill., with her three children and dog. The Disney was her 12th marathon.
This is the fourth marathon she has run with her mother. They also ran the Los Angeles, Pikes Peak and Green Bay marathons together — the latter in honor of their late father and husband, Larry Works, who was raised in the Green Bay, Wis., area.
“Mom started first,” Bosco said. “I thought if she can do it (run 26 miles at once), I can do it.”
Although her mother is a marathon celebrity of sorts (she’s competed in 19 marathons on three continents over 15 years), Bosco said the mother-daughter aspect of the event is never lost on her.
“Being at the finish line together is very moving,” she said. “I get choked up every time she finishes.”
Works maintains she was luckier than usual in Florida, finishing just ahead of a cutoff time for “stragglers” in 7 hours-plus.
“I stopped for so many pictures and was messing around so much that it’s lucky I finished,” Works said.

The amount of negative exposure we get from ordeals like this far out weighs what the TDC spends on promoting our beaches for families. The TDC and Bay County as a whole needs to wake up. Spring Break is not worth what they spend on promoting it. No other Florida city wants these pigs known as spring breakers, why should we?

First, my prayers go out to the girl and her family and friends. Second, As a part time security guard in other states background checks were required. What company did this dirt bag work for, or was he just a part time employee of the hotel? This needs to be reported and someone held accountalbe. Pictures should be circulating in every paper and news cast in the panhandle, Alabama, and Mississippi! This guy is not done yet, he’ll run and do this again until he is caught or stopped. The no-account, ignorant, backwoods thinking, pukes, who push hate in Bay County based on their comments in the other article, DO NOT, speak for me!
I am relatively new to the area. I followed the stories about the drunk driver who caused a fatal “accident” on Route 98 with interest. I was astonished by the abuse of power when the police manhandled the victim’s sons. Worse yet, they attempted to justify it. This incident certainly gave some credibility to the numerous negative postings about the Beach Police and Maj. Humphreys. What kind of police training does it take to abuse the innocent and protect the guilty. Maj. Humphreys stated that they could not arrest the two people in the Volvo because “they lawyered up.” I’m still shaking my head over that one. Does it take a confession to exact justice? Now we have another police “oops.” The police believed that the security guard was a person of “interest.” He was interesting enough to bring him in for questioning and interesting enough to take his picture…but not interesting enough to run a background check…till after they released him! Well knock my socks off…what a surprise. The guys has disappeared.

Christmas party for the community was held at the Spot Bay Park and the company
plans to make this an annual event.
There is a new face behind the desk at Paramount Carpet at their Spot Bay store. Alex Flores has recently joined as store manager and is very excited about his new post. “I am learning from the best”, he said of his employer, Gary Rankin. Mr. Flores has lived on the Brac for the past eleven years and is very happy to be able to assist the community in this new capacity.
Although known for its specialty in carpet and tiles, Paramount really does “a whole lot more than cover your floor”. The Brac centre is a complete hardware store, stocking everything from plumbing materials to lumber, windows and doors, paint and supplies …and a whole lot more.
Dolphin Supply, another member of the Paramount family, is also represented at the Brac store. A leading supplier of fine wood cabinetry, Dolphin is ready to supply and install the finest cabinets in the business and all at very competitive prices. “Our prices on granite counter tops cannot be beat and, as with all our other products and services, we stand behind the products we sell,” said Mr. Rankin.
“Outstanding service and customer care is what sets Paramount apart from the rest”, he continued.
Paramount is also recognized throughout the Cayman Islands for their involvement in various community-based functions. The annual Christmas Party at the airport park in Grand Cayman is a long established tradition and this year for the first time, was also held in Spot Bay and the company intends to make this an annual event as well.
For all your hardware needs on the Brac, just give Alex or Gary a call on 948-2665.
