Two hurt in Andrew Road crash
Two people were taken to the hospital after their car left Andrew Road, half a mile east of Illinois 29, near Sherman and slid down an embankment about 10 p.m. Thursday.
The car flipped onto the driver’s side, coming to rest in a ditch, said Sangamon County sheriff’s Sgt. Tim Mazrim.
Deputies did not know the names of the female driver or her male passenger, but noted the man was conscious and alert when they arrived. The semi-consciousness female was extricated from the vehicle by Sherman and Illinois Air Guard firefighters after being trapped inside for nearly 45 minutes. The extent of their injuries was unknown.
An Athens resident, Patricia Schnapp, 41, said the car had been following her vehicle from Peoria Road, and it was veering across traffic lanes.
Man grazed by bullet
A man told police a bullet grazed his foot when someone fired shots into his house in the 1300 block of East Edwards Street about 11:40 p.m. Wednesday.
Police found bullet holes in the interior walls of the house, and one round went through a TV screen. The victim, who is 20, told police he was in the living room and heard shots fired. One of them grazed his foot, causing an abrasion, but he did not require medical attention.
Police found shell casings inside.
Neighbors reported hearing four shots fired, possibly by men in dark clothing who fired from a nearby vacant lot.
Teen girl battered, robbed
A Springfield man allegedly battered and robbed a 16-year-old girl.
Barrien B. Miller, 25, of the 2100 block of Bradley Court was arrested at his home Wednesday.
The incident happened early Wednesday at an apartment in the 300 block of South Durkin Drive. The girl told police she was home alone because her mother works the night shift. About 1:30 a.m., Miller, whom she knows as “B.C.,” showed up asking to be let in. He and the girl talked for a while, but when the conversation turned sexual, she became uncomfortable and ran out of the apartment.

Slim Cessna's Auto Club [Bull McCabe's; 1 pm]

Though it’s centrally located right on Red River St. in the stretch between Emo’s and Stubb’s, Bull McCabe’s isn’t listed as an official venue in the SXSW 2008 Pocket Guide. It’s not quite a dive bar, but the place definitely has a local feel. There’s no natural space for a band to perform there, so Slim Cessna’s Auto Club were forced to block the bathrooms during their set of rumbling, overdriven blues tunes.
If Mad Max were a cowboy, this would be his favorite band. Between the banjo feedback and the vocal tag team of Cessna and second singer/guitarist Munly Munly, the Auto Club brought an apocalyptic snarl to the bar that had the two singers dancing like there was a revival going on. At the ends of songs, the audience would hesitate a second before cheering. Cessna and crew had done such a good job of establishing a wild, unpredictable mood that people weren’t sure if the band was done.
David Bazan [Maggie Mae’s Rooftop; 8 p.m.]
Speaking of revivals, the Christian dude formerly known as Pedro the Lion kicked off the Barsuk showcase. David Bazan has gotten a lot of flak for his faith, but as someone who got into punk through MxPx and checked liner notes for shout-outs to god until high school, I liked it. In fact, Pedro the Lion was one of the bands that ushered me into the indie music world. But somewhere along the line– and I suspect because of all that flak– Bazan got ornery. And frankly, his irreverent approach to Christianity got dumber. He went from writing songs about the merits of girls who don’t shave their legs to a constant stream of adultery and corporate business tales with "casual" references to cum, like he was the Perez Hilton of indie songwriters.

Sachin Tendulkar’s record pursuit put on hold
Cricket Sachin Tendulkar, the India batsman, will miss the second Test match against South Africa after aggravating a groin injury. Mohammad Kaif, whose most recent Test was in June 2006, has been called into the squad for the second Test, starting in Ahmedabad on Thursday. Tendulkar is expected to be fit for the third Test in Kanpur from April 11 to 15.
England hopes end
Rugby union England’s hopes of a fifth Hong Kong Sevens title in seven years ended when they were beaten 17-12 by Samoa yesterday. England fielded five of their under-20 grand slam-winning side and won all three pool matches, including against Samoa, before falling to the same opponents. New Zealand beat South Africa 26-12 in the final, their first Hong Kong triumph since 2001.
