White House to reporters: Don't expect an invitation to Bush wedding

The White House today dashed the hopes of reporters hoping to get a last-minute invitation to the wedding this weekend at President Bush’s ranch in Crawford, Texas.
"I would reduce your level of concern and be assured that there will be absolutely no readout of the wedding, whatsoever," spokesman Gordon Johndroe tells reporters flying with the president to Texas. "This really is a private event for the family. If we can — if the family decides — and I think they may — on Sunday to release a couple of photos of the ceremony, then we will certainly provide those to you. But otherwise, I think the activities of the weekend are going to be a really private celebration for Jenna [Bush] and Henry [Hager]’s family and friends."
USA TODAY’s Maria Puente wrote about the nuptials in this morning’s newspaper.

About 200 attend bridal fair in Vero Beach

June nuptials are only six weeks away for many area brides-to-be, and Sunday’s third annual Treasure Coast Bridal Expo at the Heritage Center in downtown Vero Beach offered total wedding services and goods for couples preparing to say, “I do.”
The three-hour event featured more than 30 vendors, door prizes and other giveaways. It was capped by a bridal fashion show presented by Affairs of Elegance Bridal and Formal Wear at the Courthouse Executive Center, across the street from the Heritage Center exhibition hall.
Bridal Expo chairperson Gina Wattles said the event, which drew about 200 brides, grooms, friends and family members, serves a dual purpose.
“A major reason for holding the Expo is as a fundraiser for the Heritage Center preservation,” Wattles said. “The Expo lets local brides know that there are area vendors who can provide a total wedding package without brides having to travel to Orlando, Miami or West Palm Beach for those services.”
Brides-to-be were treated to a one-stop wedding planning afternoon which featured caterers, photographers, DJs, wedding cake bakers, floral designers, balloon decorators, make-up artists, intimate product collections, honeymoon resort representatives and the bridal fashions for every member of the wedding party.
Michelle Hugelheim, 25, and her fiancé Michael Greenlee, 32, both of Vero Beach, plan a June 7 wedding and attended the Bridal Expo to finalize plans.
“I still need a photographer and flowers,” Hugelheim said.
“We’re getting more ideas,” Greenlee added.
Not every bride will be marching down the aisle this year. Some 2009 brides are already beginning to make their plans.
Audra Martin of Vero Beach is planning a May 9, 2009, wedding and was attending the event with her grandmother, mother and 4-month-old daughter in what became a four-generation information gathering session.
“I don’t have any specific ideas for a gown, but I know what I want,” Martin said. “I came here today to speak to photographers and florists because that’s the most important.

Crawford, TX prepares for Jenna Bush's wedding

The town of Crawford is getting ready for the social event of the season. Dozens of reporters, camera crews, and wedding watchers will be there as one of the president’s daughters, Jenna, gets married.
The tiny Texas town made famous by President George W. Bush is getting ready for the glare of the national spotlight.
One doesn’t have to look hard to find mementos and mugs celebrating the marriage of Jenna Bush.
Henry Hager turns 30 Friday, and he’ll turn into Jenna Bush’s husband a day later. Souvenir stores are selling everything with their pictures on them.
None of the town’s 700 people will get to see Jenna and Henry tie the knot. It’s a small private ceremony at the Bush ranch retreat.
“I live on Prairie Chapel Road," says Jerry Mattlage, the Bushes’ next-door neighbor. "And that’s the road President Bush lives on, so when I came into town a while ago, I met like 30 cars.”
Reportedly the wedding at the ‘Western White House’ will feature: Jenna in an Oscar de la Renta gown, two hundred guests, dining, and dancing.
Twenty-two presidential children have married while their fathers were in office — including Austin’s Luci Baines and Lynda Bird Johnson. Fifty-five million watched Luci Baines’ wedding on television.
