MILLER, No. 81n PETE KNIGHT RACING CHEVY READY TO ROLL INTO MILWAUKEE USAR HOOTERS PRO CUP EVENT
Mooresville, NC (May 27, 2008) — After a solid outing in South Boston in his return to racing after more than a year layoff, Travis Miller is looking forward to a new challenge when he visits The Milwaukee Mile this weekend for the Sears Auto Center 150 USAR Hooters Pro Cup race.
“It looks like you have to stay on the gas quite a bit, but you have to roll into the corners at Milwaukee, not stomp on it,” said Miller, who will pilot the No. 81n Pete Knight Racing Chevrolet Monte Carlo in Saturday’s event. “Three’s some bumps getting into Turn 3. I’ve been pretty good at picking things up at bigger tracks. It’s all about me being smooth. I’ll have a great car from Pete Knight Racing and a great teammate in Mark McFarland. We’re both looking forward to running good.”
Miller came back to the USAR Pro Cup ranks at South Boston last month and finished a ‘disappointing’ 14th in the rain-shortened event. According to Miller, the plan was in place for a much better result.
“The team did a great job all weekend,” Miller stated. “We were in a good position for the end of the race when it started to rain. There were six or seven guys in front of us that still had to pit for fuel, so we were in really good position to move up. Our whole plan was to ride around until the leaders pitted and then race for it at the end. If it doesn’t rain, we would have definitely finished in the Top-10. Unfortunately, we got stuck with a 14th-place finish instead.”
This time out, Miller will face the challenge of competing on one of America’s legendary raceways — the flat, one-mile oval at the Wisconsin State Fairgrounds. The Milwaukee Mile is the biggest track Miller will compete on in the series this year and the largest he will attempt to date in his young racing career. According to the 20-year old Chesapeake, VA native, his learning curve is already ahead of schedule thanks to McFarland and his PKR teammates.
